Pono O-15 Size Parlor Guitar
The O-15 is one of our most popular parlor size guitars. Body woods are mango, produces a tone and volume similar to mahogany.
This model is relatively simple, compared to other Pono guitars. Top, back and sides are either all Acacia, all Mango, or all Mahogany. No cutaway and solid headstock. They sound great, and slightly more affordable.
Although affordable, the entire instrument is made of solid woods, no laminates, and no plastics. Bone nuts and saddles.
Most major guitar manufacturers offer an "economy" line, but almost always it's laminate woods, or if the top is solid, then the back and sides are usually laminate. The customer sees the word "solid" in the description of the top wood. But for Pono Guitars all woods are solid.
The latest marketing ploy is calling it "layered" wood. That sounds better than plywood or laminate. But the fact is, it's still plywood. Plywood is durable, and holds up well, and can last many years with modern synthetic glues, each sheet of laminate will stay together for at least a hundred years.
But this creates three problems. One is that a guitar should last more than a hundred years. Two is the glues used to laminate each ply together is toxic to both workers and the environment. And three, plywood has little flexibility or natural aging. A solid wood guitar will age like fine wine, and last many generations.
However making guitars with all solid woods is costly, and profits are less. Our goal from the beginning, over 30 years ago has not been mass production, but instead small quantities of high quality instruments. That makes no logical business sense. But we prefer to go back to an era of time when pride of craftsmanship was more important than aggressive growth and expansion. It's a called integrity. In the end we can take pride is what we make.
