Pono O-10 Acacia Parlor Guitar

We make three different "parlor" size guitars.  This O Series and OP Series are the largest, at 13 1/2" wide.

The O is basic and less adorned than the OP.  Headstock is solid instead of slotted. Body is non cutaway, simple rope marquetry inlay for the rosette, and the top and back binding is Tamarind (a pale yellow wood that contrasts well with Acacia).  Gloss or Satin Finish.

Top, back, and sides are solid Acacia.  There are many different species of Acacia throughout the world.  Acacia Koa is one that is growing on all Hawaiian Islands.  But it's rare, scarce, and very expensive, so we use another Acacia species growing on the island of Java, and throughout Australia. Appearance and tonal properties are similar with all Acacias.  They are relatively dense woods, and thus produce a warm and deep tone.  Not a lot of bright high end sparkle, but instead a deep and smooth gutsy tone with plenty of volume.

Tonal differences between the three O Series models:

- O-10 Acacia.  As described above, Acacia is somewhat dense and so the O-10 has a warm deep tone.  This has been one of our most popular models.  Versatile with many different playing styles, and affordable.

- O-15 Mango.  Mango and Acacia have similar weight and density properties.  Mango wood though is slightly less dense and so mid and high range tone is a little brighter than the O-10. Besides excellent tone and volume, our Mango models have been very popular partially due to it wildly beautiful colors and grain patterns.  But our primary concern is tone, so the O-15 is a great option, and an affordable price.

- O-20 Mahogany.  Mahogany is slightly more dense than Mango or Acacia.  Mahogany has always been one of the most popular and desired tone woods for stringed instruments. Beautiful clear tone and excellent volume.  Of all stringed instrument woods, Mahogany will visually change the most in color.  We do not stain our Mahogany, so a new guitar will be a light red brown, however within only a few months it will begin to darken, and in a few years it will darken considerably.
